Well, here we are again, folks. Another tweet storm, courtesy of our President-elect. First Alec Baldwin, then the cast of Hamilton…and now a congressman (and many others in between that I’m currently forgetting).
The morning of Saturday, January 14 (less than one week before the Presidential Inauguration), President-elect Trump tweeted the following:
Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to……

mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk – no action or results. Sad!

Fact check:
- Congressman Lewis represents the Fifth Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1987. His website provides press coverage of several speeches and accomplishments – including a call to action on gun violence just this past September. That sounds like working to help a neighborhood move away from crime.
- Lewis was not challenging the election results in terms of numbers – he was citing what he felt was evidence of a conspiracy.
Now that we got facts out of the way, it’s time for opinions:
- On what was nearly the eve of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day – a day to celebrate the accomplishments of black activists in America, it seems that our President-elect has lost sight of what this weekend is really about.
- Trump is, to put it colloquially, going to have to work with this guy – and yet he insults him even before taking office. That seems to me like Networking 101.
- This also sounds to me like more of the aforementioned “talk, talk, talk…” If Trump truly felt as though Congressman Lewis was not working toward bettering his community, why wouldn’t he cite examples to support his claim?
- And finally, you’re not in Kansas – er, on the Celebrity Apprentice anymore, Donald. This is the real deal – and all spewing on Twitter about anyone is going to do is make you appear even less credible.
