Hillary’s Emails: How Things Stand on Election Day

Author: Mary Grace Donaldson, Current Events/Politics

We’ve already spoken about and all know about Hillary Clinton’s email investigation. But now, we have new news — just in time for Election Day.

On November 6, F.B.I. director James Comey announced that Hillary won’t be indicted as a result of any emails that were found on her server from last week’s investigation. In the words of the New York Times, the announcement was Comey’s “November Surprise.”

After nine days of concern that the F.B.I.’s review of Hillary’s newest string of emails would not be completed prior to Election Day, the emails were classified as “personal messages” as well as “duplicates of ones that the bureau had previously examined during the original inquiry.”

Of course, we have more questions. Such as…

How do the polls look today?

Good ‘ol Five-Thirty-Eight indicates that Hillary has a 71% chance of victory, up from 65% on Sunday night. Additional polls had her taking Nevada as well as the swing states of Florida and North Carolina. That would make this somewhat of a blowout. And it is duly noted that these polls are post-Comey announcement.

Will this news cause a last-minute change in the minds of voters?

As of November 7, The Telegraph reported a surge in support for Hillary from Hispanic voters. Additionally, the announcement is “expected to help her even further.”

What kind of backlash is Comey facing?

First, he had backlash from the Democratic camp when the announcement was made last week. His recent round of backlash came from the Republican camp, as its members were less than thrilled that the Democratic candidate had been cleared of any potential wrongdoing.

And what about Donald Trump?

Well, he still think’s Hillary’s guilty of something…but we’re not entirely sure what…

How does Hillary feel about the situation?

She was definitely troubled with Comey’s actions last week, that’s for sure. This week, we’ve heard from her campaign – a rep indicated that she’s “glad it’s resolved.”

Was this whole investigation really necessary?

Both sides have weighed in. The Republican camp will tell you it was necessary and is collectively disappointed with the outcome. The Democratic camp – starting with President Obama – will tell you that “the F.B.I. goofed.”

This investigation, if nothing else, proves that even when a historic Presidential race is down to the wire, anything can happen – and those surrounding the candidates will pull out all the stops to either boost their side or wreck the other. Listen up. Choose wisely. And vote today.
